Istanbul is a well-known travel destination for many people around the globe and in this article I will tell you how you can see best landmarks in a short period of time as well as some general information. Istanbul is the only city in the world that is in both continents ! It is in both Asia and Europe. This city has many unique characteristics but I won’t mention all of them here. This is a travel guide so lets jump into some exceptional tourist attractions.
first you’d better go to Taksim square as it is the center of old town and a lot of historical places and attractions are near from Taksim square. places you can visit from Taksim square are:
- Galata Tower in Istiklal street. (about 25 mins walk from Taksim square)
The nine-story tower is 66.90 m (219.5 ft) (62.59 m (205.3 ft). The Romanesque style tower was built as Christea Turris (Tower of Christ) in 1348 during an expansion of the Genoese colony in Constantinople. Its well worth seeing it and it’s said that if you go to top of this tower with a girl you will marry her. so be careful with whom you go there! LOL.
- Dolmabahçe palace in Beşiktaş district. (about 20 mins walk from Taksim Square)
Dolmabahçe means “filled graden”. Dolmabahçe Palace was ordered by the Empire’s 31st Sultan, Abdülmecid I, and built between the years 1843 and 1856. Previously, the Sultan and his family had lived at the Topkapı Palace, but as the medieval Topkapı was lacking in contemporary style, luxury, and comfort, as compared to the palaces of the European monarchs, Abdülmecid decided to build a new modern palace near the site of the former Beşiktaş Sahil Palace, which was demolished. You’ll enjoy the beauty of this extraordinary palace for sure so don’t miss it.
